How to Get Rid of Moles With Traps

Declare War On Moles and Bring Out the Heavy Artillery

Okay so you've got moles that are digging trenches in your yard that would make a World War I vet proud. We've just looked at killing moles and ways not to do it. We also discovered that eviction produces spotty results. Which leaves one thing. Mole traps. Which are readily available at garden centers and hardware stores.

Most will tell you they know of no better way of how to control moles than with traps.

Traps are easy to use. You simply load it up, place it over a carefully researched location and then wait.

Now it's best to set your traps at the first sign of mole activity. If you can get them early spring you're likely to eliminate pregnant females from the gene pool. Which can't help but cut down on future mole problems too.

Another tip on how to get rid of moles with traps is to follow the directions on the box. Each type of trap has to be set slightly different for best results

Of course if one is good two or three are better. You see most who fail with traps do so because they fail to set enough of 'em. Besides you'll probably be using them again and again in future years. So simply look at it as an investment in a great looking lawn.

If you're using a harpoon or spiked trap in hopes of finding a skewered mole make sure no rocks or tree roots are in the path of the spikes.

But here's the key tip for how to get rid of moles. You want to set your traps in active runs. They're usually straight and may be connect two molehills or mounds of dirt. They also often follow fence lines, walls or a border of some sort in your yard. If a run is pushed back up after you've stepped it down that's a good sign you've found an active run. While a fresh mound of earth is an even better trap location.

Oh yeah, it's also a good idea to stick a plastic pail over your traps. Doing so does three things for you. One, it tells you where you set it. Two, it keeps inquisitive pets from nosing around and messing things up. And three, it keeps you from mowing over the trap.

Anyway, those are some proven tips on how to get rid of moles using traps. Good luck and I hope you get your mole.
