Getting Rid of Moles All Comes
Down to Knowing the Answer to
"What Do Moles Eat?"

Eliminating Pesky Moles Isn't Impossible

Moles are carnivores. That means moles are meat eaters just like lions and tigers and polar bears. Only smaller. So if you're wondering "What do moles eat anyway?", think worms, grubs and insects.

Now some would tell you they eat grass roots. Nope. Not true. They burrow at the grass root level because that's where their food supply is. But they don't eat the roots.

And they aren't into veggies either.

No, if you want to know what do moles eat it's simple. Plain and simple they burrow for bugs. Again that would be grubs. Worms. Slugs and other assorted insects. That's what's on their menu.

This is good to know because if you remove dinner, or at least make it harder to find, odds are the moles you've got will be become the moles your neighbors get. So see? Killing moles isn't the only way to rid your yard of moles.

Of course this is all easier said than done. And not all that foolproof either.

But a good start is to apply a grub treatment in the spring. This will go a long way towards wiping out one food type favored by moles.

Worms are another story however. You want to encourage them. Which unfortunately works counter to your efforts to ridding your yard of moles, doesn't it? Since moles can get by quit nicely on a direct rich in worms alone thank you very much.

Also if you don't want to wage chemical warfare here's another tip. Create a mole snack bar that's more tempting than anything they may find in your grass. To do this you simply dump some compost in a shady corner of the yard. The compost will attract worms. Moles eat worms. Moles are attracted to the easy "Worm Fest" you've created and presumably leave the rest of your yard alone. Well that's the theory anyway. No guarantees naturally. But it's worth a try. Or how to kill moles in your back yard without killing them actually.

Anyway knowing the answer to the question what do moles eat puts you on the path to cutting down on the happy meals they find hidden among the roots. Accomplish that and your yard will be mole free longer.
