Riding Lawn Mowers Home >> Zero Turn Lawn Mowers
The Inside Story on Zero Turn Lawn MowersBut the fun factor is a big factor in their growing popularity. Many feel they make cutting the grass something to look forward to. Still in the mad rush to embrace zero turn lawn mowers a few things are possibly being overlooked by more than a few budding yard men. So let's me play devils advocate to reveal what you don't get with ZTR mowers. For one this is a machine strictly for mowing. No hauling a garden trailer. No plowing snow. No nothing like that. You should also know that zero turn lawn mowers offer limited ground clearance. On firm, smooth ground they're at their best. But throw in mud or mounds and they can bog down or even get stuck. Sure they have a hydrostatic drive but they come with only two wheel drive. Which is what can limit their ability to power through mud and sandy conditions. No cup holder is included with many models. Okay just something to lighten the mood. But then that might not be a bad thing. Granted ZTR's do cut grass a heck of a lot faster than most other riding lawn mowers. But that speed comes with the trade offs listed above that I felt you should at least be aware of. Basically you simply need to understand what you want from zero turn lawn mowers. Then see if they deliver. As in most things a bit of research can help you avoid getting caught up in the current ZTR mower frenzy and making the wrong decision.
