Summer Lawn Care Advice:
Proper Watering and Seeding

Can't wait for summer fun to finally arrive? Pool and barbeque parties are just two of the summer activities waiting for you to indulge in. While you're getting ready for these activities, you need to make sure your lawn is ready too. Pieces of summer lawn care advice are what you need the most right now. Especially summer lawn care and maintenance tips and ideas.

Fertilizing
One important summer lawn care advice is to fertilize your lawn. The reason why your neighbor's lawns can be so healthy and green is because they know how to feed their soil. Fertilize the soil by mulching or using compost. Some people may prefer using chemical fertilizers but organic fertilizers are way better. However, be sure to fertilize your soil properly. Too much nitrogen, present in fertilizers, can burn your lawn. Let me put this another way, fertilizer can be good but too much is often bad.

Mowing
Mowing is another essential aspect in any summer lawn care advice. The number one rule is not to mow your lawn too low. Cutting grasses too short in a way that you're already scalping them is truly not the way it should be. Avoid cutting more than 1/3 of the grass blade anytime you mow. By the way, remember to keep your mower blades sharp to ensure a clean cut. Worried about the grass clipping after mowing? Get yourself a mulching mower. That way you can just leave them on the lawn. Otherwise if you bag and haul them off you are wasting free fertilizer - ever look at it that way?. That's right. The clippings, they can be recycled to fertilize the grass once they've been mulched up.

Watering
Irrigation is yet another important step in proper lawn care for the summer. Failing to provide adequate water supply to your lawn is a major pitfall. You're not the only one who gets so thirsty during summer. Even grasses get thirsty too and you need to quench their thirst by watering them sufficiently. However, over-watering your grasses can also affect the health of your lawn. The best way to do it is water deeply yet less frequently. You may install an automatic water sprinkler system.

Summer Lawn Care Made Easy

Every spring, that's right before summer, haul all your lawn care gear out of the garage and inspect, sharpen, clean or repair as needed. Anything left for you to throw away and replace last fall should be replaced now. This little bit of preventative care will go a long way during those long hot summer dog days.

I know numbers are for morons, but would it kill you to actually measure how much square footage of actual grass you've got growing? Taking care to deduct the square footage devoted to things like the sidewalk, flower beds, your deck and anything else that isn't growing grass so you know how much of anything to buy.

Create a grass free buffer zone around trees, shrubs, fences or decorative rocks. It may be less fun than ramming the mower into them to try to mow down any grass that takes root around them, but if you give yourself two feet that's free and clear your mowing won't be so, well hard.

The sight of a weed or patch of crab grass that intrudes into your otherwise pristine yard is not the signal to bath the entire yard in herbicide. Simply deal with the offender(s) one on one. Don't confuse an intruder with an invasion. Do this often enough and you'll almost be embracing
organic lawn care. And then what? Lugging around bags of corn glutten to fight crabgrass.

Make summer the way it should be - a time to embrace the smell of clean cut, green grass. Following this advice will make it easier to take it all in, right?
